The setup: The Bulls led the series 3-0 with Game 4 set for Miami Arena. The day before, Jordan played golf from sunup to sundown and began the game by missing his first 15 shots. He was 1-of-22 going into the fourth quarter.

The Jordan touch: He scored 20 points in the fourth quarter and almost pulled the game out for the Bulls.

His teammates later called it one of his most courageous performances ever. ''Most guys don't have the guts to keep shooting after missing that many shots,'' teammate Steve Kerr said. ''That one performance defines Michael's arrogance and his confidence.''

The Jordan touch: A month past his 35th birthday, he scored 42 points and he did it with many baskets coming on outrageous moves, dunks and trick shots, displaying the electrifying, gravity-defying style of his early years in the league. ''I kind of went retroactive today,'' he said. ''I was doing some cleaning up at home and ran into them. I decided to wear them as a sign of appreciation for all the respect I received here.''

5. The event: The 1997 NBA Finals against the Utah Jazz

The setup: The series was tied 2-2 going into Game 5 at Delta Center. Jordan ate some bad pizza the night before the game and, weakened by food poisoning and a stomach virus, could barely stand up by game time. He was dehydrated and dizzy and couldn't keep any solid food down.

The Jordan touch: He played 44 minutes and scored 38 points including the game-winning three-pointer in the final seconds. He also had seven rebounds, five assists and three steals. ''I've never seen Michael as sick as he was, to the point where I didn't even think he was going to be able to put his uniform on,'' Scottie Pippen said. ''The effort he came out and showed us was incredible. He's not only the greatest player ever, but the greatest leader ever.''

After his sixth three-pointer, he turned to Magic Johnson, who was helping broadcast the game for NBC and just shrugged his shoulders as if to say, '' I can't help it.'' The Bulls went on to win the title in six games with Jordan averaging 35.8 points going head-to-head against Clyde Drexler. ''Going into the series, I thought Michael had 2,000 moves,'' Drexler said. ''I was wrong, he has 3,000.''

7. The event: Game 2 of the 1991 NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers

The setup: The Bulls were in the NBA Finals for the first time but were upset in the opener at Chicago Stadium. An angry Jordan was moved to point guard for Game 2.

The Jordan touch: He made 15 of 18 shots and had 13 assists as he guided an attack that had five Bulls in double figures. Chicago went on to win the next four games and its first NBA championship. One play was most memorable. He drove the lane and went up for a right-handed layup. As Sam Perkins and A.C. Green came over to block the shot, Jordan, in midair, double clutched, switched the ball to his left hand and laid it in.
